Went for first site visit and meeting for a commission to develop a public art strategy for a new development at Waterlooville in Hampshire. It's a huge site - though early days in terms of the amount of development that has taken place. Very pleased to be sharing this work with Steve Geliot - two minds are better than one!
A day trip from Brighton to Leicester and back makes a long day but well worth it for the session at the Curve - a huge theatre in the middle of the creative district. The day centred on storytelling and storymaking with under fives, and especially with boys. Peter Rumney shared his expertise working as a writer with this age group - great to hear and to share the experiences ourselves as we found stories and poems to write from lots of different starting points - including feeling jelly and ice, and planting magic seeds in a garden. Really liked the interactive and kinaesthetic environment that was set up for us to explore - lots of food for thought!
Took part in an interesting Open Space session in Reading last week hosted by Creative Junction and facilitated by Improbable Theatre. The question for the day was 'Creative and Connected: how do we work together for the future of creative learning?' and I led a session about what creative learning in early years needs to look like in the future. Notes from the meeting are on the Creative Junction website here.
Photos below of the room layout before we started, and the collection of ideas for one of the sessions.
Also went to the Arts Award regional conference at the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate - very impressive! Found out lots more detail about how to run successful Arts Award projects in schools.
After nine years as an Arts Officer at WSCC, I am leaving on the 11th of the 11th 2011 to take up freelance work. Looking forward to working as an Associate of Culture Shift (www.cultureshift.org.uk) and as an Artsmark assessor for Arts Council England in the immediate future - and developing more projects for the future!
I've done the training - just need an opportunity to use it! More info about Arts Award on their website: http://www.artsaward.org.uk Its a great opportunity for young people to gain accreditation for their achievements in the arts.
Working on a show called 'The Invitation' which is a story written with young people to animate a town centre building at night using digital projection, shadow imagery and live action. Its a free event - more info at:
#digitalopenstudios I will be attending their free workshop on Business Model Generation this Wednesday
St Leonard's on Saturday 10th September, partnering with the Children's Centre and exploring the potential of the beach for creative work in early years settings. It was sunny and warm but very windy which made the shelter building task quite a challenge!

A final farewell gathering for Creative Partnerships Sussex and Surrey - inspiring speakers, lots of ideas for the future and a great group of people. I was very inspired by Marc Koska OBE who underlined the importance of researching what the need is rather than imposing solutions.
I'm working with Antik Theatre Company devising a performance for White Night in Brighton on 29th October. Have a look at the Antik website for more information - www.antik.org.uk
